Noir et Blanc’ is a Photography workshop to experience the traditional analog Photography.

Through this beginner-friendly workshop, you will discover how to shoot film, develop it, and print it in the darkroom — a perfect starting point for anyone interested in analog photography.

This workshop is composed of 1 to 3 participants and is led by me, offering guidance throughout the day to help you explore and learn extensively across the different aspects of analog photography.

This session is dedicated to the 35mm format, with a camera provided free of charge for use during the shooting walk. All necessary supplies for the day are included in the price: one roll of Ilford HP5 black and white film (35mm, 24 exposures), a storage sheet, film development chemicals, RC photo paper, and paper processing chemicals. By request, I can also offer instruction in medium and large format photography.

The day is split in three parts:

Start at 9h00: We'll start the day by meeting at the workshop location, where we'll have a coffee and take some time to get to know each other. Then, I'll walk you through the equipment and explain how the session will unfold, so you feel comfortable and ready for the day ahead.

After our introduction, we’ll head outside to start shooting film, exploring the surrounding nature and environment. This is a chance for you to get familiar with the camera and begin practicing. Along the way, I’ll guide you through some basic photography principles to help you start seeing and capturing the world through an analog lens.

11h00: After the shooting session, we’ll return to the darkroom to begin developing the film shot during the morning. I’ll guide you through the entire development process, demonstrating how it works and explaining the theory behind each step. While I develop your films, you'll get hands-on experience using blank film to practice spooling, loading the developing tank, and handling the chemistry. You’ll also learn how to properly mix and measure the chemicals used in the process. Once the films are developed, we’ll hang them to dry and take a break for lunch. (Please note: lunch is not included in the price.)

14h00: After the lunch break, your films will be dry and ready to handle. We’ll dive into the darkroom together, where we’ll create the traditional contact sheet for each of you, allowing you to see all the photos you shot in the morning for the first time. Once you’ve chosen your favorite image, we’ll move on to enlarging it and printing it on RC paper. You'll witness the magic of the darkroom firsthand as your image begins to appear right before your eyes. If time allows, you’ll also have the chance to experiment with making additional prints of your chosen photo.

The day will wrap up around 17:00, and by then, you’ll have explored all three key steps of analog photography: shooting, developing, and printing!

The price is per person, but reduced rates are available if you book for 2 or 3 participants together. If you're interested, please send me an email with your preferred date and the names of the participants. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have! The workshop can be in French, English, or Portuguese, depending on your preference.
