Born and raised in Cabo Verde until the age of 19, I left my home country behind to pursue a Bachelor of Design and Multimedia at the university of Coimbra, Portugal.
In 2018, I made the move to Switzerland (Suisse-Romandie), where I currently continue to live and work.

Throughout this journey, I made the switch from digital to analog photography, searching for a more selected and slower pace of working. I have since dedicated all my free time to learning analogue photography, having fallen in love with the process.

Primarily shooting black and white with a current focus in landscape photography, my practice largely involves going out to explore familiar and unfamiliar locations, taking the time to open myself to new surroundings. It is important to me to carefully select and compose my scene. Later I arrive home to develop, print, and prepare my photos for framing.

Working on this entire process myself from the minute I leave home, to my work in the darkroom, is what I really love. It is my ambition to one day begin making my own frames in order to complete my work.

Entirely self taught, I had to navigate the technical side of using the camera and developing film, as well as learn to create my own prints and experimenting with new techniques. Like many, I began by developing and printing in a small bathroom, and after years of collecting the best equipment and a move to the country side, I am fortunate to work within a dedicated darkroom space.

Here I am able to create quality prints, realise larger projects and fully explore this medium that has so much to give and to learn from.

I invite you to follow my journey, and I hope you enjoy the photographs I share. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, would like to discuss my work, or simply want to talk about the beauty of analog photography.

Kind regards, Abner Macedo
