MACEDO
Film photographers cherish silver gelatin prints for their exceptional quality and detail. The choice of premium gelatin-silver paper is essential for achieving the rich tonality and fine detail that make this process so distinctive. Since its introduction in the late 1880s, silver gelatin printing has remained the gold standard for black-and-white photography.
In the darkroom, each print is exposed under an enlarger, developed, rinsed, air-dried, pressed, and then meticulously retouched by hand with a fine brush. Though the process is time-consuming and costly—leading to its decline in the digital age—it remains highly valued by museums, galleries, collectors, and photographers for its craftsmanship and timeless beauty.
Silver gelatin prints continue to be one of the most exquisite black-and-white printing methods, celebrated for their depth, tonal range, and unmatched character. That’s why I’m especially excited to announce that I’ll soon be offering these handcrafted prints for sale—so you can experience the beauty and quality of traditional darkroom printing for yourself.
